BEHIND THE SCENESOur friend, Kelii, slack key master of Molokai took us under his wing. He learned ki ho'alu (slack key) from his tutu (grandmother), in the old way. As it would be getting dark, he'd find her sitting in the taro patch playing her guitar for the taro, the land, everyone and everything. Ho'oponopono, making things right, at the end of the day. As everything readied for sleep and maha (rest). She taught him that we are all connected... plants, animals, land, pohaku (stone), humans, waters, ... all connected. What you do to one, you do to all. Mahalo nui loa Kelii!

A local Kauai tradition, Doug & Sandy's music washes away pain and stress enveloping you in your own little island of peace.
1. Hanalei Bridge:Honors the one lane Hanalei Bridge. With gratitude it was declared an historic bridge so that it cannot be expanded. It's your 'bridge' to peace and aloha of old Hawaii. An original McMaster Slack Key tune given to us by the Hanalei Bridge. (Original)
2. Happy Trails:Sonny is a working horse taking riders on beautiful trails. He loves his work and he loves to have his picture taken. Whenever a visitor raises a camera, Sonny's head stands high and he smiles for his picture. His McMaster nickname is "Sonny, the Poser". (Original)
3. Hihimanu:Hihimanu is a beautiful mountain so named after the manta ray because its twin peaks appear like the 'wings' of the manta. This song makes dreams come true. (Original, recorded live with nature sounds.)
4. Hula Blues:Traditional song showing the transition from old style Hawaiian slack key family music to an entertainment form. The changes in the early 1900's included addition of jazz and swing chords and rhythms and singing.
5. Ka Punahou:A mele pana (song of place). Traditional song created for the special district of Punahou on Oahu.
6. Mai Ae I Ka Hewa:When practice of tradition art forms was banned for a period of time, slack key could still be practiced by playing hymns for missionary services in slack key style. (English translation - Yield Not To Temptation)

7. Centipede Boogie:Although centipedes are prehistoric in appearance, the spirit of their song proves their personalities must be quite lively and unique.
Remedy for a centipede sting - almost scalding hot (as hot as you can stand it) compresses applied quickly and repeatedly to the wound until the sting subsides. The heat changes the structure of the protein in the venom before it can do damage or cause reaction. Wait too long and it doesn't work. Yikes! (Original)

12. Whales Homecoming:Their return is always special for us and this particular year, they gave us the gift of their song. Hear the perfect imitation of whalesong complete with note that at first stretches to what seems to be wrong pitch. Before you know it , you'll be singing with the whales.
